About Miami MDs for Women

At Miami MDs for Women, we offer the highest level of obstetrics and gynecology care in a warm, caring environment. We are three women from different ethnic backgrounds (Haitian, Jewish, Hispanic) who genuinely care about our patients’ health and well being.

Katia Magalie Apollon, M.D.

Dr. Apollon grew up in Baltimore, Maryland. She received her Bachelor of Arts from Harvard University, graduating Magna Cum Laude with highest distinction in Psychology in 1990. While there, she was awarded several honors and prizes, including induction to the Phi Beta Kappa Society. She received her medical degree at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in 1996. In addition to being elected into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, she graduated with a prize for outstanding achievement as a clinician.

Dr. Apollon completed her residency in Obstetrics & Gynecology at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital in 2000. She then worked as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine for the New York University School of Medicine treating her own patients and training residents and medical students at Bellevue Hospital Center. She moved to Miami in 2003 and has been in private practice ever since. Her interests include abnormal uterine bleeding, contraceptive management, menopause, routine gynecologic care, minimally invasive procedures and general obstetrics. She loves musical theater, dance and reading. When not working, she enjoys the many adventures of being a mother of two children.

Rebecca Karsenti, MD

Dr. Karsenti is a Miami native. As the daughter of an OBGYN, she always thought that she would be a pediatrician because she loved the idea of watching children grow over the years. However, from her first delivery, Dr. Karsenti realized that her fate was to follow in her father’s footsteps.

She graduated from Duke University magna cum laude with a Major in Spanish and attended medical school at the University of Miami where she was elected to the academic honor society, Alpha Omega Alpha. She did the majority of her residency at Tufts-New England Medical Center in Boston and then completed her training back in Miami at University of Miami / Jackson Memorial Hospital program. Dr. Karsenti loves to dance and practice yoga in her free time as well as spend time with her husband and three children.

Annette Pelaez, MD

Dr.Pelaez, a native of Tampa, Florida, has been practicing Obstetrics and Gynecology in the Miami area since 1989. She graduated from the University of Florida with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. She attended the University of Florida College of Medicine and graduated with honors, and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society.

From her first day in the obstetrics rotation as a student, she was convinced women’s health was the area of medicine for her. She completed her residency training at the University of Miami program at Jackson Memorial Hospital. Dr. Pelaez loves to travel and has made many trips with her husband and two children.

Lina Ximena Caicedo, MD

Dr. Lina Ximena Caicedo was born and raised in Colombia and moved to Tampa, Florida after graduating from High School. She received her Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of South Florida and her Doctor of Medicine degree from The Ohio State University. She completed her Obstetrics and Gynecology residency program at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center.
During residency her research projects included the effect pelvic organ prolapse has on the self-esteem of Hispanic women and the POP-Q test as a tool to measure the cervical length. In addition, during the last year of residency she started a research/quality improvement project regarding the perception of Tdap vaccination among pregnant women in the U.S-Mexican border. The goal of this project is to improve vaccination rates during prenatal visits and during hospital admission.
She is fluent in English and Spanish. She loves to read as well as spend time with her husband and son.

Sarah Anderson, DNP, ARNP

Sarah grew up in Melbourne, FL. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from the University of Miami in 2008, graduating with honors. She worked at the University of Miami Hospital for 3 years as a cardiac nurse and then worked at Baptist Hospital of Miami for 6 years as a labor and delivery nurse. She is certified through the National Certification Corporation (NCC) in Inpatient Obstetrics and became an expert nurse through Baptist Hospital’s professional nurse advancement program. She received her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) from the University of Florida in 2016 and is board certified in family practice through the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP). Sarah started working with the practice in May of 2017. She enjoys working out, cooking, and spending time with her family.
